The True Able Sisters Story

In Animal Crossing, you might know the wonderful hedgehogs who run the clothing store on your island. At first glance, they are adorable hedgehog sisters who spend their time helping your island with their needs. But what you don't know is they have a very dark backstory.

You might have become friends with Sable, which happens when you talk to her daily for an unconfirmed amount of time (it took me two weeks). If you're the first player on your island to become friends with Sable, Mabel is surprised that Sable calls you by your real name, then they start a conversation, and Mabel makes a quick inside joke to Sable, who is then embarrassed. A few days after, Sable starts telling you about the pictures on her wall.

There are three Able's. Sable, Label (Labelle) and Mabel. They were an un-expecting family when they were younger, along with their parents. That is, until the tragic accident in which their parents died. Sable, being the oldest, was left to take care of the two sisters. Mabel was too young to remember any of it at the time, and Label was barely any older. It was a tough job, so Sable depended on her dear friend Tom Nook to help her through it. After a few years of this, Sable and Label got in a large fight, causing Label to leave and start her new life as a fashion designer. Label went to the extreme, and ended up changing her name to Labelle. Sable soon became depressed. But she always had someone to rely on, right? Tom Nook was still there for her, but not for long. He soon left to achieve his dreams in the city.

Sable had no legs to keep her up anymore (metaphor), and was left all alone to take care of Mabel, who, at the time, was around 10 years of age.

But life in the city was no joke to Tom Nook. He soon went broke, and only then did he realize how much he needed Sable, and how they were only growing further and further apart the longer he stayed in the city. So he followed his instinct and returned home. They repaired their friendship and Sable was struggling less. When Sable and Mable were both adults, Tom Nook decided to host an Island Getaway Package for anyone who cared.

Sable wasn't struggling as much now that Mabel could take care of herself. But there was still one thing. They had no money.

Sable, who spent most of her time making sheets and clothing for her sister and her, soon had an idea. They could start a shop, just as Label did.

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Label was known as Labelle. However, in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you may have noticed that she has once again changed back to Label. This is because Sable and her made amends.
